Before talking about any other aspect of the food, I 100% recommend people come to try the cheung fun (steamed rice noodles) and the lamb skewers!! Their Chinese menu is so good and we came out of our way from Manchester for this place. I came here on a recommendation from Chinese social media (red little book) for their Chinese menu and their steamed noodles. They have prawn, egg, beef, char siu, and corn options and we tried the prawn, beef and char siu. The steamed noodles are very soft and are made fresh for the order. They use a soy sauce with a special seasoning (I recommend asking about allergens if you have those) and it was genuinely the best steamed rice noodles I’ve had in the U.K. so far. The lamb skewers has a lovely taste with Chinese BBQ seasoning. The portions are generous and the taste was incredible, I recommend people to try this at least once if you’re in Edinburgh! The service was impeccable and our host was so friendly

Food was delicious, service was very friendly and was made to feel at home. Prices were very reasonable given quality and portion size, only downside was the toilet was dirty and in need of a little TLC. Would highly recommend Ichiban, and won't hesitate to go back next time I am in the area

Absolutely lovely restaurant. I came with my partner and my mum. The chips were amazing, but the real speciality seemed to be the noodles. My chicken udon was brilliant and my partners beef raven was also really good. The meat on both was so tender. We had such lovely service from the waitress who explained it was a family run restaurant.

Lovely family run restaurant with delicious food and friendly servers. I had the spicy ramen accompanied with some jasmine tea and it both arrived so hot, it was obviously made fresh to order. The pricing is also very decent with generous helpings.

Delicious food! We ordered the cheung fun (rice noodles) - one with prawn and one with beef and it was amazing. We also ordered the lamb cumin skewers, which were very juicy and well spiced. I believe the options we ordered were from the Chinese menu rather than the Japanese menu. The woman who provided our service was very lovely! Definitely recommend here for lunch!

One of the standout dishes at Ichiban is the cheung fun, or steamed rice noodles, which have garnered rave reviews for their softness and delicate texture. Prepared fresh upon order, these noodles come in various options—prawn, beef, char siu, and more—each infused with a special soy sauce that’s a flavor revelation. Diners, such as Mariam H, have claimed it to be the best they’ve tasted in the U.K., a bold statement that speaks volumes about Ichiban's commitment to quality.

The lamb skewers, seasoned with authentic Chinese BBQ spices, are another must-try. Juicy and bursting with flavor, they are a testament to the restaurant's dedication to crafting memorable dishes. Sandy Wilson describes the experience as being made to feel at home, a sentiment echoed by other patrons who appreciate the friendly service and generous portions that make every visit special.

Of course, the heart of Ichiban lies in its family-run atmosphere. Jake Smaje noted how the restaurant's charm is amplified by the personal touch of its staff, who are eager to explain the menu. Whether you’re indulging in the tender chicken udon or the spicy ramen, each dish is prepared with care, ensuring that the flavors resonate deeply and satisfyingly.

While there are minor criticisms, such as the need for facilities maintenance, the overall dining experience at Ichiban is overwhelmingly positive. As Joanna Kennedy remarked, the pricing remains reasonable considering the generous portions and the quality of the food. This, combined with the warm hospitality, ensures that Ichiban becomes a staple for anyone seeking delightful Asian cuisine in Edinburgh.

In conclusion, if you find yourself wandering the streets of Edinburgh, do not miss Ichiban. Whether for lunch or a casual evening meal, the culinary gems here promise to satisfy your cravings while leaving you with a sense of contentment and a desire to return.
